During Jesus’ life, God required His people to bring a ram without defect to the Priest for sacrifice for their sins. (Leviticus 5:17&18.) The Bible assures us we can’t be forgiven for breaking God’s laws without shedding blood. (Hebrews 9:22.) Why aren’t Christians sacrificing rams today?  Sacrificing an animal for human sin was a foreshadowing of the perfect sacrifice. God’s holy wrath wasn’t satisfied by sacrifices and offerings so God sent Jesus to earth in a human body to take the wrath for us. (Hebrews 10:5-7.) The Bible states no man can redeem another person’s life or ransom someone from God’s wrath. (Psalm 49:7.) Then how can we hope to have a relationship with our Creator God?  God presented Jesus as the acceptable sacrifice for all sins because God is just. (Romans 3:25.) Our sin cannot be ignored by God.  God sent Jesus, a lamb without physical defect and guilty of no sin Himself, to sacrifice Himself as full payment. (2 Corinthians 5:21.)
Jesus’ physical body died so God can judge us, but no longer find us guilty of our sins. (Colossians 1:22 &1; John 1:7; Hebrews 8:12.) Does this mean all people are forgiven? No. Each of us must believe God exists and God has laws we must obey to please Him. (1 Samuel 15:22 & Proverbs 20:3.) We must confess we have disobeyed those laws and so deserve punishment. (Romans 3:23 & 1 John 1:9.) We understand our country has laws and our judicial system determines the punishment for breaking those laws. The penalty for disobeying God’s laws can only be satisfied by one sentence. We must acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God, realize we are a sinner needing forgiveness, and accept that Jesus took our punishment. (John 3:36 & Romans 8:1-4.) We must be sorry for our sins and turn to God for the power to resist sin. (Acts 3:19.) John the Baptist recognized Jesus as the Lamb of God who removes all our sins. (John 1:29.) Jesus prayed to God in the presence of His Disciples declaring Jesus had authority over all people and gives eternal life by completing the work God gave Jesus to accomplish. (John 17:1-4.) Jesus is recognized in heaven as a slain lamb in (Revelation 5:6.) Those in heaven profess Jesus was slain and His blood purchased people from all nations so that those saved will serve God. (Revelation 5:9 & 10.) Nothing impure will enter heaven, only the people whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. (Revelation 21:27.) Our merciful God is the only one who knows how to restore us to Himself and God provided the way.
